About
Callander Girl Photography… It’s about LOVE! It’s about FUN and it is about REMEMBERING! Your love and life, inspires my love of capturing life - the moments, the intimacy, the joys and celebrations. Photography is a most wondrous medium (a grand invention in my opinion!) It allows us to remember our life - by turning our memories into beautiful works of art. What an amazing piece of equipment… and I get to drive it!!
About Rachel
Rachel has been a passionate photographer since she was given her first camera at age 11. She sees so much beauty around her and often finds it in the places that get overlooked and seem insignificant. She finds great joy in treasuring these discoveries and values them by making fine art out of these small yet beautiful experiences. For Rachel photography is an essential and wonderful medium that she uses to share her love of the world around her and the people she encounters.
History
When Rachel was young she was happiest when she was creating, making and feeling beautiful. When she was given a camera Rachel encountered a whole new world of creative possibilities. Rachel took art as a major subject at High School in Oamaru and was very happy to learn from her wonderful art teacher Mr Walsh that Fine Art was actually a career!! An encouraged and very excited Rachel, worked hard at putting a portfolio together that would allow her entry into the Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at Otago Polytechnic School of Art. She was a student of the Bachelor of Fine Arts program from 2002 until 2005.
Rachel graduated in 2005 with her BFA majoring in photography! A very great day!
Then entered the charming Sam Callander who stole Rachel’s heart! In return, she took his fabulous last name on February 11th 2006… another great day! Callander Girl Photography was visioned while working on the vineyards of Central Otago one summer and began in reality in 2006. Rachel continues to learn and grow in her style and is currently working towards further qualifications in the photographic area. (She can also single shoot a pinot gris pretty good too- but that is vineyard laborer speak)
Rachel’s goal of being a member of the prestigious NZIPP (New Zealand Institute of Professional Photography) has become realised! She was accepted in August 2007 as a qualified professional wedding photographer! Well done Rachel!
